The Alma is a big, old Victorian pub, sitting on the main A222 as it runs up from downtown Croydon toward Elmers End. Its an utterly unpretentious working-class pub, offering big screen sport, karaoke and the inevitable arrange of lagers. Expect to see some tough looking geezers sporting tattoos and some very pretty young mums, and their kids, making use of the extensive front patio and beer garden. Over the years the Alma has had its small bars knocked out to maximise space, but there's now a games room for pool and darts. There's a rough edge to the Alma, but its overall feel is cheerful enough. There's reasonably priced pizza available all day and, in addition to the lagers, there's a drinkable Bombardier on offer, plus Ruddles on draft.
