Shirley Inn, Addiscombe
The Shirley Inn has had its ups and downs over the years but now under new ownership as a free house the management seem to be making an effort to improve it but still a fair way to go to get back to its best when it was the best pub in the area. Unlike its neighbour The Crown the Shirley tries to be a proper locals pub but the locals that made it such a delight in the not too distant past have, for the most part not returned - a great shame. The Shirley is a one bar pub and a pretty comfortable one at that. However, the outside patio area is not too inviting. There are TV's everywhere, although not all on at the same time except when footy is on. There do seem to be a lot of racing enthusiasts using the pub who seem to tread a regular route between the pub and the nearby bookies. Not wishing to put the place down too much, if it is a quiet pint you want and The Crown is too crowded, you will not be disturbed except when footy is on and can enjoy a quiet pint in reasonable surroundings. We wish the current management the best of luck, as this was once such a nice boozer.
