The Queen's Head is the embodiment of the pub-as-front-room ethos. What looks like a Victorian Cottage in the hamlet of Allen's Green outside Sawbridgeworth hides a tiny pub. Inside you'll find a friendly landlord serving four ales on tap (including a mild) from behind his truncated bar. Indeed, they pride themselves on their beer and host regular 'beer & BBQ weekends' in the large grassed garden. The décor is basic but comfortable, with the scattering of countryside walkers and locals providing a good atmosphere. Indeed, it appeared to be an excellent example of what pubs used to be - a meeting point for local residents to meet up for a chat and a drink. We think the interior could be cosied up a little bit, but this is a simple, honest pub worthy of a good four pint rating.
