Riverside Inn, Ashford
FancyaPint?'s review...
Sitting to the south of the town centre, unless you have local knowledge you are likely to encounter the Riverside Inn only if heading on foot to/from the train station to the Designer Outlet. As such, it is a welcome nineteenth hole after indulging in retail therapy. This fact, however, does not do the place justice. The red exterior is eye-catching enough, but the inside is charming. The focal point is a smallish main bar, with exposed wooden beams which look original. Diners and drinkers mix freely, whilst a small hatch (of the type rarely seen nowadays) allows those drinking in the large garden to be served without having to negotiate the bar. Indeed, on a warm day they open up a free-standing outside bar, meaning the exceptionally idle don't even have to go inside. The beer garden is very child-friendly, featuring a playhouse and ample room to run freely. We're not sure if there is an indoors child policy, however, so it's best to check. As for the beer, we were impressed to see mild on tap (although sadly this was off), whilst the choices of bitter were the perfunctory London Pride and John Smiths, but also a great guest in Hopback Summer Lightning which just about nudges up our review from three to four pints. A very good local pub.

Well done John & Teresa you have made the Riverside a very enjoyable experience. We are really impressed with the improvements you have made and such a welcoming atmosphere. The food as always was great. Your members of staff very pleasant. We would thoroughly recommend anyone wanting an easy evening in a relaxed environment or to pop in for a lunch to give the Riverside Inn a try, you would probably be pleasantly surprised.

i saw a banner on the bridge near the outlet saying about the refurbishment and i thought i'd be nosy and get some food having been to this pub before when i walked in yesterday with my wife and 2 chidren (2 and 4) i thought i'd taken a wrong turn. the place is unrecognisable from my last visit about 3 months ago and it really does look fantastic it was like a high end country pub with a relaxed atmosphere in the middle of town
going to the bar the service was quick the beer was crisp
on ordering food i did find the menu a little large which made me not sure what to order although when we finally decided our food arrived quickly, looking good and tasting great they even let our small children share a childs meal as they had already eaten
all in all a really good pub and a welcome change to the norm 9 out of 10
