So this is a pub that is essentially a good community local with a food offer. Although it is an odd shape - sort of a triangle - it has plenty packed into it.
There is clearly a good community following - the Quiz league board is packed with the names of winners past and present and there are other signs of activity over and above just opening the doors.
The food wasn't on when we were there but the menu was trad fayre with a twist rather than madly exotic and if the beer is anything to go by will be well made and served. They have a really neat "Mid month madness" where a set meal for a price can be had but only when money is tightest.
The beer was a good mix of standards in terms of lagers - mainly Heineken products - and the cask selection was pretty good - Loddon the most exotic and Doom Bar and the all new Courage Best the least. But it was well kept and dispensed.
Standards throughout were good and this would definitely be a place to watch the footie, do the quiz and have pub-grub and not need to go anywhere else. When we visited we didn't get to see how the pub works with their extensive live music operation which looked a pretty eclectic mix judging by the band names - which means I think, that we've missed out on a big part of the USP of the Three Mariners - for that we apologise and will try to return on band night.
Good pub and the best hereabouts I think - can't wait now to re-visit and see the Mardi Gras band!
