The Bell Inn is a good example of the expression, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”. It might not look much from the front (weathered, sooted stone building on busy Walcot street) but it more than makes up for it inside…

The Bell Inn has an intimate, small bar to the right upon entry complete with a fireplace and trinkets on the walls (cricket bat and trumpet to name a few), to the left a long room with several tables has a stage to accommodate musicians who play regularly. At the rear, a sizeable beer garden makes for a nice setting in summer.

The location of the pub, a few minutes walk from the centre) has a big bearing on the clientele, tourists normally don’t find it as it is out of their way so an assortment of locals. One certainly doesn’t need to worry if entering alone, friendly drinkers and staff ensure everyone feels welcome.

An array of real ales are on offer, Summer Lightening, Danish Dynamite and Rare Breed on this visit supplemented with local Bath Ales; Bellringer and Gem.

This pub will charm all those who visit.
