The George is recorded as an alehouse in 1705 when it was known as the George & Dragon serviced by the Taplin & Son Brewery. The pub then disappeared only to return as the George again in 1832. The range in the public bar is dated 1783.
The pub is very welcoming, child and dog friendly and although there is a really locals feel to the pub they are equally as warm to visitors. The food is really good and the pub is known for its carvery as well as good pint of Gales Seafarer... in summer months there is also a lovely beer garden. The George is a great pub well worth a visit.
