It's a Wetherspoons, which probably tells serious afficionadoes everything they need to know.

Formerly a supermarket, it loses atmosphere having no real focal point around which people congregate, especially during the day.

The beer choice is standard Wetherspoons - Ruddles, GK Abbot and a fair mixture of guest ales. Occasionally a meet the local brewer evening is held with presentations previously from Moorhouses, Prospect, though surprisingly never from Bolton's own Bank Top.

CAMRA members are encouragged with a small discount taking the average price of a pint of (less than 5.1%) bitter at £1.85 - eat your heart out!

Beer quality is a bit hit and miss -but that often depends on one's own palate. Certainly there often appears a bit of a misbalance - especially on busy Friday's between mid range bitter - best bitter strengths (3.8-4.6%) session beers and over alcoholed 5% plus which don't suit all, but there again Friday / Saturday nights are for the youngsters ore than ale drinkers.

I can't comment on the food - it appears standard Wetherspoons alcohol soaking fare.

Staff are friendly enough and seemingly efficient.

Would I go out of my way to go there - no. Is it the best chance of a decent and varied choice of real ale in Westhoughton - yes.
