Mary Shelley, Bournemouth
FancyaPint?'s review...
A member of the "Lloyds No. 1" range in the JD Wetherspoon stable, the Mary Shelley is a good deal better than some of its sister offerings which we have had to endure in our time. An unusually large pub, with plenty of corners available, this one doesn't appear to attract louts, and is a pleasant - not to mention reasonably quiet - place to sit down with a pint (the usual decent JD Wetherspoon range of ale is available). Relatively clean, orderly, serene and with attentive staff, it's how the chain must have envisaged all their pubs would be when they first started trading - although it is rather bare, and there's not much worth writing home about in terms of local photos and the like. It features late - not to mention early - opening, when things may well get more raucous (we didn't stay all that long on our visit, as we had to get home). There's not a lot of competition in Bournemouth, a fact which surprised us greatly, but this is definitely one of the better 'Spoons places.
