Caroline of Brunswick, Brighton
FancyaPint?'s review...
A lovely little pub with bags of character in a very unpromising location. Worth going out of your way for. The Caroline of Brunswick is run by an alternative couple keen to provide a sociable venue that also stocks good beer and food. The red walls, black woodwork, the large sculpture of Cerebrus above the bar and Marilyn Manson on the jukebox emphasise the alternative side. However, those without tattoos or numerous piercings need not fear as the welcome is friendly for all. It has a small pool table and a little courtyard area that is partially covered. When we were there the pub had a couple of real ales on tap and served a good range of food at lunchtime (and later in the evening it seemed to be permitted to have a takeaway curry in the beer garden). The staff are friendly and we stayed there far longer than we intended.

How to find the Caroline of Brunswick pub
Out of Brighton train station, go immediately left down the road leading underneath the station (Trafalgar St). At the end turn left onto York Place then walk for another 5 mins past the Somerfield on your right. Turn right immediately (Oxford St). Then you can either walk to the end of the road and the pub is on your right on Ditchling Road, or you can turn right into the Somerfield car park around the back and nip in the back door.
