The Mash Tun, Brighton
FancyaPint?'s review...
This funky place gets very busy in the evenings and weekends with Brighton's younger crowd, especially students. Although it isn't nearly big enough it does have a relaxing comfy area upstairs, which helps. Downstairs there is almost no natural light, and in the evening very little otherwise, so it has a dark club like atmosphere, with an otherwise pretty basic décor with a lot of round tables. The music, although good and obviously popular with the hip crowd, is very loud. As an evening goes on it of course gets louder and busier. In a town like Brighton where there is always a party-hungry crowd, this place has made it's mark quite well. If it's a quiet night and some quiet conversation you want, this won't be your thing, but if you're "havin' it large" then it will!
