While you might expect a pub that says "Bristol's Oldest Pub" to be a bit of a tourist trap, you might be surprised here. Don't get us wrong, it is old: apparently established around 1500. It definitely has a local feel and the number of regular events going on belies its status as a tourist destination. It's a massive pub, suitably half-timbered and with exposed beams, carvings and wood panelling running through the labyrinth of nooks and crannies inside. Okay, it does have a historical notes stencilled on some of the walls and photos of olde Bristol, but that doesn't make it a terrible place - particularly when one has "Wii Wednesdays - have a go on the big screen" in the games room to look forward to! When we were in last, there were surprisingly few of the tourist folk, and the large beer garden was filled with hardened regulars. The only disappointing thing was the measly two ales on the handpumps, although they were surprisingly cheap. Still, it's worth a look if you're in the area.
