Ye Olde White Harte Hotel, Burnham-on-Crouch
Ye Olde White Harte Hotel is a traditional inn on the banks of the River Crouch. Situated on the quayside, it's an ideal for place for tourists locals and boaters to enjoy a spot of refreshment with often bracing views of the river. Inside it's much cosier, a traditional interior with original beams and fireplaces dating from the 17th Century. The central bar - which appears to be modelled on the stern of a galleon - sports three hand pumps offering a variety of ales, some local (Crouch Best was the tipple of choice on our last visit) and it's well-kept. The food is befittingly traditional too and features locally caught fish with fresh veg, plus bar snacks and sandwiches if you're not up for a full meal. There's a more formal eating area off the bar, if you want to go the whole hog. The service is friendly and there's accommodation available, should you decide to stay for longer. Ye Olde White Harte Hotel has been around for a few hundred years and given its popularity today, we expect it to be around for a few hundred more.
