It may say Greene King (and it might still be in their ownership) on the sign but don't be fooled. Six pumps, cider from a barrel and pork scratchings by the half pint. This pub is run by an enthusiast who loves beer and loves to chat. There's no lager (technically this would lose a pint rating but I started with 6!), so if that's all you drink, you'll be disappointed. No lunchtime drinking in the week but always a good atmosphere from the moment they unlock the doors at 5.

Superb atmosphere, no-nonsense, no-lager free house, with quickly changing barrels - never less than 5 beers on offer and very friendly. Not open weekday afternoons. A 10-minute walk from the centre of town.
