The Dove, Bury St. Edmunds

It may say Greene King (and it might still be in their ownership) on the sign but don't be fooled. Six pumps, cider from a barrel and pork scratchings by the half pint. This pub is run by an enthusiast who loves beer and loves to chat. There's no lager (technically this would lose a pint rating but I started with 6!), so if that's all you drink, you'll be disappointed. No lunchtime drinking in the week but always a good atmosphere from the moment they unlock the doors at 5.

Excellent community pub and top class beer at sensible prices. Two regular ales from Woodfords and Mighty Oak always on tap, plus an ever changing dark and three other beers available. All the beers are from East Anglian (Micro)breweries. Local handmade pork pies, scratchings are good sellers plus regular snacks. No hot food, no music except on the odd blues jam night, no TV, no gaming machines - Bliss!!!
Could do with a woman's touch but this doesn't distract from the fact that this is the best pub for miles around and worth seeking out. Roger, staff and a broad spectrum of customers alike are very approachable if you're into conversation. Highly recommended.
