Once a Carvery-style pub called The Red Barn, a refurbishment has essentially turned this large building into an Italian restaurant. Still, there's a drinking area which serves pints, so it merits a review. Overall, Ancora seems to be a place of aspiration. People dress up to come here, although it is essentially on a par with Pizza Express. you will aos find it a more relaxed place than the other nearest pub, the Sportsman. the pizzas and pasta on offer here are pretty cheap and the complimentary garlic bread we received with our drinks was certainly appreciated. Speaking of drinks, you'll find a standard selection of beers, along with John Smiths, while the red wine we chose was pretty good. A large grassed garden out the front (sadly overlooking a duel carriageway) is often preferable to the interior: the contemporary restaurant decor mixed with the old rambling building comes across as gloomy rather than cosy. One to put into the box 'it'll do'.
