At first glance, the Market's a pub solidly aimed at the real ale drinker: there are nine hand pumps with regularly changing guest beers (we particularly enjoyed the Long John Silver), but it's also a place for the locals. Named, logically enough, after the famous, bustling market in which it sits, the pub has a continuous in-and-outflow of shoppers, traders and "colourful characters" during the day and, as well as providing them with pretty decent beer, there's home-cooked food and plenty of other kinds of drink on offer. The interior may be fake olde-worlde, but that doesn't spoil the atmosphere at all. We didn't stay around for an evening session, so we've no idea what it's like then, but, given the pub's pretty much on Chesterfield's Yates's/Wetherspoon/student-pub circuit typical of UK towns, we're not especially hopeful. We could, however be mistaken.
