The A286 is a busy stretch of narrow A-road that carries traffic to and from the Witterings, The Black Horse is fairly unprepossessing for the two-storey Grade II listed brick built former coaching house it once was. Set back a little from the road and now under the alias of 'The Pizza and Pasta Pub', it is still a pub and it is still possible to sit in the main bar area and just enjoy a drink. The beer choice is, unfortunately, very limited but, when we went in, they were serving a decent enough drop of Harvey's. Given the pub's new branding, don't be surprised to find that its emphasis is on serving pizza and pasta meals, and that it's geared to families. Prices are reasonable, but the menu is not imaginative and, what we had, was nice but not brilliant. The staff at lunchtime all appear to be quite young and bit amateur, but very helpful and friendly. We can imagine the Black Horse doing quite well out of a passing trade of Mums and Dads desperate to find somewhere their kids will eat recognisable grub at reasonable prices but, at the moment, it's the sort of place that, if you find somewhere better, you wouldn't go back out of choice.
