The principal problem with the Crown and Anchor is its popularity. On a fine summer's day, or on a weekend in the sailing season it gets invaded by mix of yachties and family groups looking for a reasonable meal and a decent choice of liquid refreshment. Being a Young's house that last is pretty much guaranteed, and the popularity of the pub might give some indication of how the food is rated. Personally, we've always thought that it's quite expensive for what's on offer but, that said, the fish dishes are undoubtedly fresh and generous in their servings. We surmise that the pub's management team price on the basis that if you can afford to moor anywhere near Chichester, you're not too worried about spending 11.50 on cod and chips. Certainly, on the busy days, it's probably easier to park-up near the Crown in a boat than it is by car and, unless you're an intrepid hiker, the Crown is hard to get to without transport. However, even when busy, we've always found the staff trying hard to offer a reasonably efficient service. If you can sit down and enjoy the surroundings, the Crown is a comfortable country pub and, in the quiet season, it enjoys the custom of a variety of friendly locals and their families. Outdoors it offers tables and seating and some lovely views of boats moored up and mooring in Chichester Harbour's Dell Quay. If you're looking for a budget family meal, you'd probably give the Crown a pass. But, if you've picked the right spring or summer day, when the yachties all want to be seen to be playing about on their boats, it's a great place just to sit and watch futile human activity with a decent pint close to hand.

Lovely setting totally ruined by terrible food that is massively over-priced. Hard to believe it's a Young's pub. Don't waste a journey unless all you want is a drink.
