Although located in zone 4, The Bull in Chislehurst could convince you that you've been transported to an even more bucolic location. Set near the old village green, The Bull is one of those Young's pubs fast disappearing from the more central parts of London. It's still a proper pub, serving proper beer (an excellent pint of Young's Best Bitter to be had), in a cosy setting with big old leather chairs, an open fire, and if it all gets too much for you, rooms to let upstairs. Friendly staff make you feel very welcome indeed. Traditional pub grub is served all day, and the place gets very busy at lunchtimes and at weekends. Popular with an older crowd of locals, this is the perfect place to sit down with a pint and a book. Not many places you can say that about these days.
