The Coach and Horses is a large, old, traditional pub in the Brecon Beacons national park. It's a handy stop for walkers, tourists and locals as they walk the historic and picturesque Monmouthshire and Brecon canal. There are excellent local beers on the hand pumps - Rhymney bitter and Wye Valley bitter when we were in - accompanied by Abbot, Stowford press cider and a standard range of gas-propelled beers and bottles of wine. A traditional pub menu includes a popular Sunday lunch - get here early in summer to avoid disappointment - and there's a separate games room containing a pool table, games machines and the TV, so food can be enjoyed in peace and quiet. There's a large beer garden, across the road by the canal and accommodation is available for those too tired to continue on up the canal. Service is friendly and efficient and the pub is spick and span. It's an ideal way to end a long walk in these parts, whatever the weather.
