Castle Hotel, Downham Market
FancyaPint?'s review...
The exterior of the Castle Hotel certainly makes it an attractive prospect. From the display of hanging baskets and flower pots, to the ornate wrought iron entranceway it invites further inspection. Inside, the bar is located on the left hand side and is , turns out to be of the traditional type. The heavy patterns and dark wood give a warm and cosy if somewhat old fashioned feeling, while the walls festooned with old photos of the area add some character. It's not the largest of places however as the back of the hotel is taken up by a restaurant. The selection of drink on tap wasn't great and the one ale (Greene King) was off, so we settled for a generic lager and sat outside. While not outstanding, there is enough charm here to make us return if we're ever in Downham Market again.
