The Long Stone, Dublin
FancyaPint?'s review...
With its combined Viking and Irish theme, the Long Stone tries to be a little different. The pub's name refers to the long 'steyn' or stone pillar (not to be confused with this erection) that visiting Norsemen placed to mark their settlements and indicate possession of the land. The Vikings arrived in Dublin in around 837 AD so they surely deserve at least pub dedicated to their memory. It's a big pub with plenty of seats and a decent menu on offer. On our visit, the combination of piped music and blaring TV in the bar did not mix well, but perhaps we were unlucky. The vivid decor of the Long Stone may not please everyone but it's a decent place all told. Look out for Baldr too (the Norse god of beauty and light) who takes the form here of a large sculptured fireplace.
