The Phoenix is a quirky little pub owned by a benign old gent who lives on the premises. Two large stuffed animal heads (an elk and a yak) mounted on the walls stare forlornly at each other across the crowd of merrymakers. Neon beer signs twinkle between their horns. An excellent variety of beers, ales and cocktails are on offer and it can get very crowded at the weekend, so come early for a seat. The animal theme continues with a large stained glass window depicting the pub's incendiary namesake.

How to find the The Phoenix pub

From the Dundee rail station, walk north up the high street, West Marketgait, until you see the large Overgate shopping mall. Turn left onto Nethergate. From there it's a short walk. The Phoenix's bright red facade will be on your left.
