The Ship Inn was first licensed to sell spirits in 1847 to hard-drinking sailors when Broughty Ferry was a busy fishing village. Today it serves locals and tourists who sip their pints while enjoying the spectacular view from the ground level bar, just steps from the river Tay. Its recent refurbishment preserves the nautical tone right down to the port holes, brass ship fittings, and curvaceous figureheads that may once have graced ships but now are conversation pieces and - occasionally - coat hooks. The second floor dining room offers an even more excellent view of the river. Binoculars provided by the management allow you to watch pleasure craft and the picturesque coastal villages of Fife on the opposite shore. In a village full of cheesy places aimed at tourists, the Ship is the real thing.
