Next door to a B&B (which may come in handy), the Watering Hole is situated just before the thirsty drinker reaches the main shopping area in Scotland's one-time capital, and as such is generally the first pub one encounters after leaving Dunfermline Town station. The clientele is mainly young (20s), male and female. Apparently it's one of the best in town on a weekend night - they also have open mic on a Sunday (all day) and a Wednesday (from 7pm). They do promotions on a Thursday - Saturday (especially vodka), but we understand that bouncers keep away the underage. Early evening on a Saturday, there was already a loud, but not objectionable, atmosphere building. There's a large, quieter back area where you can order food, or simply sit and drink. Food-wise, it's not a lot more than a fuel stop, but thumbs up to one of the friendliest and most accommodating barmaids we have ever had the pleasure to be served by. It's not especially interesting architecturally or in terms of features, and the beer is standard for Scotland (the ubiquitous Tennents and Carling dominate), but it's a comfortable place and there are several malts, should you need warming up. A well-kept beer garden extends round the side. The main drag in Dunfermline has several pubs on and around it, but this place is perhaps your best bet if you don't know the town (as we didn't).
