The Old Mill, East Grinstead
The Old Mill (known locally as Dunnings Mill) is a rambling old place - although not as old as you might expect as the mill itself was demolished early in the 20th Century - that still has enough atmosphere and charm to satisfy most visitors looking for a quaint olde worlde Englishe pubbe. But nostalgia is probably not the reason most of the locals come here - it's the food and drink. It's a Harveys pub, so you'd expect the beer to be plentiful and excellent and, sure enough it is, with the usual Harvey's stalwarts (best bitter etc) always available plus seasonal offerings such as the very pleasant Knots of May light mild. The wine list is also pretty good (and not just for a pub), but the principal reason most people come here is to to dine. The menu is extensive and includes all the traditional pub favourites (Sunday roasts etc), plus there are plenty of other options for veggies and carnivores alike, should you be feeling a little more adventurous. Service is fast and efficient (although you have to order food and drink at the bar) and there's a kids menu and plenty of outdoor seating should the British weather take a turn for the better. Quite rightly, a very popular pub in the area.
