Enjoying its umpteenth new management team and emerging from a bit of a refit courtesy of the pubco, the Oak struggles on in competition to two much better pubs close by. It has the advantage of being located centrally among the busy shops and services of the East Wittering village, but the disadvantage of a few years of neglect and a consequent reputation for troubled times. We visited on a busy summer Sunday afternoon but only had the company of a few youngsters playing pool in the opened-out bar area. Lagers are the predominant promotion, but London Pride was available and it was perfectly okay. If the Oak's new managers get a food offer going and make a conscious effort to get some family trade, they might drag the pub upmarket. However, we fear a summer of lager and football will keep it a poor third in the East Wittering selection.

Currently surviving on a wing and a prayer, since present owners The Co-op want to build a new supermarket on the site.
