Deacon Brodie's Tavern takes the prize for being the easiest pub to find anywhere, not just on the Royal Mile. Located on a busy intersection, it's no surprise that this is a very very popular tourist pub, with thousands that pass here every day. Consequently the experience is designed more for newbies than it is for the experienced pub goer. Granter, there's beer on offer and it's a nice looking pub with an interesting interior, but that's as good as it gets the pub connoisseur. Everything else is geared to tourism - from the beer prices chalked on the front of the pumps, to the mugs and T-shirts and other paraphernalia on sale - it's a theme park shaped like a pub - a Scottish-themed pub in Scotland. You will find it crowded most days, God knows what it's like during the festival, we'd say it's one to tick off the list and then move on.
