If you don't know the story of Greyfriars Bobby or haven't seen the film, Greyfriars Bobby was apparently a Skye Terrier who watched over the grave of his owner, John Gray, in the churchyard of Greyfriars Kirk until he died himself 14 years later. In commemoration, a statue was erected out on the main road of the cute little dog and it's a big draw for visitors to Edinburgh. The pub, which stands between the statue and the churchyard is almost as much a fixture on the Edinburgh pub scene. It's had a bit of a makeover since our last visit and is now owned by Nicholsons, which means the beer and food are as we'd expect from one of their pubs; Decent beer, largely from Scottish brewers on this visit, and okay food. Staff are friendly and there do appear to be locals that use the pub, too. Hey it's a touristy pub, but that's probably to be expected from a pub firmly on the sightseeing trail. Still, it's pleasant enough and does the job we expect of it.
