"Robbos", as it is known locally, is a very different pub from its near-neighbour, the Tynecastle Arms (also reviewed on this site). Despite the similar maroon hue of the exterior (common to a few pubs round here - it could be a nod to the local side, Heart of Midlothian, though we're not sure), this is where the similarity ends. Robertson's Bar is, in the nicest way, a scruffy sort of place. Sticky floor, sticky tables, you get the picture. That said, the welcome was warm, yet thankfully unintrusive. We understand that it can get very, very raucous on a weekend (they have karaoke on a Saturday) and even more so when the Jam Tarts are playing at home. On our visit things were much quieter. But it was a pleasant and peaceful place to escape a miserable, wet Edinburgh evening, and despite the obvious focus on younger punters, the draught McEwans 70/- was surprisingly decent and relatively well-priced.

How to find the Robertson's Bar pub

The nearest train station is Edinburgh Haymarket, which is around a 15 minute walk away. On leaving the station turn right at the Ryries pub onto Dalry Road. Dalry Road runs into Gorgie Road. About one mile on, the football ground is visible from the first major road junction/set of traffic lights. Robertson's Bar is on the left, just before the railway bridge and a short distance before McLeod street (which leads to the ground) on the right.
