Sandy Bell's Bar, Edinburgh
FancyaPint?'s review...
Many of the pubs in the centre of Edinburgh claim to be legendary and quite a few are, but Sandy's Bells is right up there with biggest - which is something of an irony as it's probably one of the smallest pubs you'll ever visit. What it lacks in size it makes up for with gusto - it's a lively, world-renowned folk music pub. The ale is decent - three hand pumps featuring beers such as 80/- and Directors, there's an enormous range of malts (naturally) and the service is fast, friendly and efficient. The atmosphere is jovial, noisy and enthusiastic and when the music kicks off it's impossible not to grin. You can turn up for a quiet pint and end up shoulder-to-shoulder with a crowd of complete strangers and a seven-piece Ceilidh band playing their hearts out in the corner - you'll be hard-pressed to find a better craic this side of Galway.
