We've been meaning to get down to this end of Epsom for some time now, having heard so much about this pub from various respectable sources, and we're glad we did. A proper locals boozer with a good choice of food, well kept ales and lots more. There's plenty of space outside when the weather's good and inside there's a pool table, dart board in its own alcove, quiz machine, some sort of casino machine and a big telly for the sport (although they were watching the Proms when we were in!). The bar staff were friendly and looked after our food requirements, even going so far as to cook something that wasn't on the menu. Try getting that in a chain pub. If you're not after a meal, there's plenty of other nibbles behind the bar including jars of whelks and pork scratchings. And on the day after our visit we were reliably informed that the carpark was to be taken over by Morris Men. The 3 pints award may seem a little stingy at first, given the numerous plus points of the place, but we thought that it could do with smartening up and the vibe of the locals wasn't up there with the 4- and 5-pinters that we know and love. Still 3 pints isn't to be sniffed at. A really good pub.
