Farnborough isn't blessed with many great pubs near the centre of town and whether or not the Tumbledown qualifies depends very much on your outlook. It is certainly a little bit shabby inside and won't win awards for haute cuisine or beer selection, but what it does possess is character. The walls are adorned with various band paraphernalia, which you can peruse along with the list of forthcoming gigs while the many black-clad regulars select from the rock-oriented jukebox. At the back is a large live music venue, playing host to local bands and tribute acts, while every Friday there is a club night. If this, or the main bar, don't interest then a smaller side room hosts two pool tables. There appears to be debate about how the pub derived its name, perhaps from the downfall of Richard Cromwell, son of Oliver, or because of an association with the famous highwayman Dick Turpin.
