Shipwrights Arms, Faversham
FancyaPint?'s review...
We've known and loved the Shipwright's arms for a long time, but for one reason or another we keep forgetting to write it up for our guide. We do occasionally get asked if we ever leave our particular favourites out, just to keep them to ourselves, but we don't - it's just simple forgetfulness and that's what's happened here. The Shipwright's Arms is in an isolated location on the marshes just to the north of Faversham, but, despite this, it's a well-known and popular pub and rightly so. It's an old, old place with all the exposed oak beams, log fires and nooks and crannies you could want in a old traditional British pub. And the beer is served in the old-fashioned way too - the small bar has a line of kegs across the back, from which are poured pints of well-kept, interesting and ever-changing beers and ales. To accompany the ale there's no-nonsense pub grub - fish and chips, pies, ploughman's etc - served quickly and efficiently. The Shipwright's Arms is in a great spot for walkers, but be warned the pub closes in the afternoons and it's not open at all on Mondays, so plan your walks accordingly (check with the pub first). The beer garden is great in summer and Sunday lunch is very popular. Definitely one to seek out.
