The Green Man Inn, Fownhope
FancyaPint?'s review...
Without wanting to seem like we're resorting to estate agent speak, the Green Man has 'great potential' and is crying out for someone to achieve this. This used to be a bustling pub, with a core of locals, those attracted by the reputation of its food, and a stream of tourists -- many who would stop in the attached hotel. The exterior of this 15th century black and white inn (which has been extended many times over) still helps to draw in custom but many of the regular attendees have found alternative venues to frequent. The food (excellent value at two meals for £8 pounds) is now more of interest to bargain hunters than gastronomes, not that we're sure its status in yesteryear was totally deserved. It wouldn't take much to turn it around, with the interior still retaining plenty of original features, an excellent location on a busy thoroughfare between Hereford and Ross-on-Wye, and a decent sized garden.
