Bridge 61, Foxton
FancyaPint?'s review...
Although it's only been open a couple of years, Bridge 61 feels like it's been there considerably longer. The decor being devoid of any coherence or theme probably lends itself to the timeless nature of the place. Anyway, while the day trippers and tourists gather at the Foxton Locks over the water for a generic and predictable time, the more hardy walkers and canal boat owners take up residence here. A small two roomed affair, the bar is a tiny, deep and high hatch, festooned with dog chews (10p) and picked eggs (£50p). Provisions are also available when the adjoining shop is closed - most handy if you run out of loo roll on your boat. The ales on offer were excellent - at least three from the small Langton Brewery, including one made especially for this establishment. People seemed to know each other - the canal boating community is pretty close knit, we suppose - but we felt as welcome as anyone else and will happily go back again.
