Southern Belle, Gillingham
FancyaPint?'s review...
The Southern Belle is one of those places which, although perfectly clean and tidy, is simply devoid of intimacy or charm. Although the clientele is mixed, it appears to be the local of choice for a young, male crowd who - let it be noted - were perfectly polite and well-behaved on our visit. It's kitted out in an unimaginative, pseudo-gastropub style, like a slightly downmarket Slug & Lettuce, with a cavernous feel (although it's not actually all that big) and the music blares unceasingly. We have absolutely no axe to grind with the staff or the clientele, nor was there any aggression or edginess on our visit - it just struck us as soulless.
