It's always a matter of regret when we at fancyapint? have to give a stinking review to a pub through no fault of the staff, the beer or the majority of the punters. Located in the City Centre on the edge of the West End, this is a handy drinking-hole surrounded by several Chinese and Indian restaurants, as well as a McDonalds right opposite if you fancy a post-drink burger and Irn Bru (the latter being that particular corporation's one nod to local taste). Bannisters is a pretty rough-and-ready West Glasgow boozer, wooden floors, solid tables and worn settees which preclude chucking about, and the ubiquitous Carling and Belhaven, but an honest pub with polite enough staff. Unfortunately, our visit was soured by a (thankfully) rare dose of overt anti-Englishness in the gents from a local soak after we dared politely to request a passage through a tight spot to the unoccupied urinal. "See you next Tuesday, my English pal" being the printable version of what was spat in our face.
