Bon Accord, Glasgow
FancyaPint?'s review...
It's a pity that we could pay but a flying visit to the Bon Accord, as this place is a regular in the "Good Beer Guide" and has a good name throughout Scotland. Reputed both for its ales and its whiskies, we would recommend you try a pint of Stewarts 80/- for starters. Known as "heavy" or "export" North of the border, it's more associated with the nation's capital than it is with Glasgow. A strong bitter championed most famously by McEwan's, that brewery's much-loved cask conditioned version was controversially withdrawn from the market in 2007 (see also the review for the Athletic Arms (Digger's) in Edinburgh on this website). Also of note, apart from the regularly-changing guest ales, is Kelburn Cart (sic) blanche, a local brew which, we understand, is a permanent choice here. Whilst we didn't have time to sample the malts, we'll give them a mention on account of the positive comments emanating from the bar (we understand that the range has expanded exponentially since a recent change of management, to the point where over 200 are now available). A jovial atmosphere pervades the place as well, which helps. Recommended for a visit if you are in the vicinity.
