Mallyan Spout Hotel, Goathland
FancyaPint?'s review...
The Mallyan Spout takes its name after a nearby waterfall, which is a popular attraction for hikers in the area. This place boasts a 3 star Country House Hotel rating, but we are here to talk about the bar. Initial impressions were promising enough: it was a bitter night but the fire was going, and whilst not entirely homely in the truest sense, it was cosy enough and the Black Sheep and Pinot Grigio were going down well. However, our evening took a turn for the worse when, having decided to order food at 20h45, we were advised that the kitchen had closed at 20h30. Menus had previously been requested, but no warning of closing times was given. The apology we received was half-baked (which was especially irritating as we had spent over £20 on drink by that point), the sandwiches they eventually managed to rustle up were meagre and forgettable, and we otherwise went hungry (remote Goathland is hardly takeaway heaven). The Hotel itself looks lovely from the outside, but our evening was spoiled. We shan't be returning soon.

How to find the Mallyan Spout Hotel pub
Near Whitby (9 miles away) in North Yorkshire, the Mallyan Spout Hotel can be reached by car from the Whitby to Pickering road (A169). Alternatively, catch the nostalgic North Yorkshire Moors steam railway from Pickering, Whitby or Grosmont, and it's up the hill out of the station and half a mile along the main road, opposite the parish church.
