Hatfield Heath is certainly picturesque, with its very own tea rooms, cricket green and thatched cottages, but it fares less well on the pubs front. In fairness the Stag is a perfectly fine place, but not quite what we had hoped for. With heavily patterned carpets, it's a traditional-style pub, looking like a composite of successive bit-part refurbishments over the last 30 years; it is quite cosy though. Its also a shame the beer garden is sat at the back, overlooking a car park, as the view from the front is infinitely nicer. Half the pub is dedicated to a restaurant, with seating consequently limited in the bar area, not helped by the presence of a pool table. This seemed even more silly when you know they stop serving Sunday lunch at 3pm, leaving half the pub consequently deserted. Service was attentive enough though and the locals amenable, so although it might not a be a place we'll return to often, it certainly suits the locals nicely.
