The Royal Oak is a below average pub situated in the village of Houghton Conquest, a place which sounds nicer than it actually is. The pub itself may not have been downright awful, but we can't exactly recommended it either. On our Saturday afternoon visit the main bar was exclusively patronised by a small group older men, who struck up banter with us immediately - we just couldn't tell whether they were being genuinely friendly, or sizing up us outsiders. It's a tired looking pub, too, with old carpets, a pool table, some averagely kept Well's Eagle IPA and a large grassed garden. Not one to go out of your way for.
