More commonly just "Cod", this is a no-nonsense West Hull boozer. The pub's primary raison-d'Ítre is as the former local for Boothferry Park, Hull City FC's ground until 2002, which still stands, albeit in an unused and pitifully dilapidated state. Apart from photographs of local football stars, of Hull FC (the rugby league team from West Hull) and GB rugby league sides of yesteryear, it's a nondescript place. Nevertheless, let it be noted that the name is a reminder of Hull's proud fishing history - the "Silver Cod Challenge Trophy" was awarded from 1954 until 1968 by the British Trawler Federation to the skipper and crew of the trawler with the largest total catch for the year. The beer is standard - Carlsberg, Stella, John Smith's, you get the picture. Despite the move from Boothferry to the swish KC Stadium (shared with Hull FC) nearer the centre, this remains the local of choice. But be warned: certain of the "City Psychos", the notorious Hull football "firm", continue to drink in here, so if you're brave enough to visit on match day, never walk in wearing away colours...
