The Viper, Ingatestone
FancyaPint?'s review...
Sat in the woods, on a country road, the Viper looks idyllic. A very well-kept front garden and a nicely proportioned exterior give way to a series of simply decorated, but comfortable and cosy rooms. During winter each one boasts its own real fire roaring away. The only modern touch were the toilets, which is no bad thing. If you're after real ale this is the place to come; we counted six, including a mild and those we sampled were in perfect nick. With very few houses nearby, this is a bit of a destination venue, and Sunday afternoon finds it pretty busy with a wide variety of people - including a fair number of cyclists - enjoying a reasonably priced lunch. Service was good too, with a jovial chap collecting the pint pots adding to the pleasant atmosphere. If you're after an unmolested country pub in a perfect setting, the Viper fits the bill very well.
