The Falls of Dochart are an impressive geological feature on the outskirts of Killin, handily located by the A827 and just across the road from the The Falls of Dochart Inn. It’s a popular spot, in summer you’ll find the rocks crawling with tourists, leaping precariously from rock to rock, in the quest to get the perfect snap of the falls. And, once they’ve got their photos, providing they haven’t been swept away by the torrent, you’ll more often than not find them across the road in the inn. The Falls of Dochart Inn is primarily a hotel and restaurant, but there is a small bar at one end of the long, low building, where you’ll find three reasonable ales on the hand pumps and a selection of wines (from Stowells) and spirits to quench your thirst. it’s fair to say this place is aimed at the stereotypical Scottish tourist - the stone flagged, floor, the gloomy interior (the windows are small and the walls are thick), stag's head and weapons on the wall and the curious dummy dressed as an old woman, sitting in a rocking chair by the large open fireplace. Traditional music drones out over the PA adding to the sombre atmosphere. The beer is decent and the service friendly, but we usually find ourselves sitting at the tables and benches in front of the pub, overlooking the falls, if the weather is sufficiently clement. If you’re a visitor to Scotland and you’re stocking up on shortbread and Loch Ness monster toys, you’ll love it here, enthusiastic pubgoers might just find the character just a little too “Scottish”.
