The Yorkshire House, Lancaster
FancyaPint?'s review...
The Yorkshire House has taken on several guises over the years and its current one doesn't reveal itself until you're past the front door. If you judge books by covers, you would be for thinking that this was a sleepy, "old-man's" pub as it promises little from the outside. However, once inside you have a lively, orange-coloured, young pub with a juke-box, table football and an upstairs 100-capacity music venue (great sound and light) which hosts local bands. With this sort of clientele and atmosphere you'd be forgiven for expecting little choice at the bar but not so! We counted 5 ales on pump and several ciders, including one which was brewed by the landlord. The recipe wasn't quite to our taste but we certainly gave him points for effort, and the bar staff points for being an enthusiastic, friendly bunch. We drank out in the beer garden and were comfortably the oldest people there, attracting the musically enthusiastic arm of the local student body as it does. Overall, the place reminded us of a slightly younger and noisier version of Filthy McNasty's Whisky Cafe down in London. Great for a lively night out.
