John O'Gaunt is a fine, narrow old city centre pub in Lancaster with a good mix of clientele and regular music events. On our last visit, a cracking jazz/blues trio were entertaining the appreciative locals and, despite the crowded nature of the bar, we were quickly and happily served by the friendly barmaid. Always a good thing! The beer was well kept and reasonably priced and there were plenty of places to grab a seat. Whilst we didn't eat, we noticed a rich assortment of sausages available on the menu and regular curry nights. All said and done, this place is perfect for those looking for a friendly atmosphere and a bit of live music. Rumours also abound that the Guardian rated this place as one of the best city-centre pubs in the UK.
