The Pig and Whistle is a massive sprawling carvery outside Preston on the road to Lytham St Annes. Like many carvery pubs, it ramps up the traditional pubbe atmosphere, while simultaneously being significantly wide of the mark in that respect. Still, it's warm and relatively cosy inside with clear eating a drinking sections. You pay for your food at the bar and get given a chit to hand over when you wend your way to the restaurant area. And what of the food? Well, it's no underestimation to say that easting here is cheap. The cost, Monday to Saturday, is a frankly ridiculous £3.50 (and no, that's not a typo). That includes a couple of types of meat along with unlimited vegetables and Yorkshire puddings. It was pretty tasty too. The good value probably explains why it was so crowded on a Tuesday evening. Happily the service was friendly and helpful, leaving us with a smile of our face as we left. So, in summary, let's be honest; very few people come here for a drink - the selection is mediocre anyway - it's all about the food. But if we lived around the corner from here it would be very tempting to eat here every night.
