The Donkey is one of Leicester's few smaller alternative music venues, but it also works well as a pub, too. Outside of the town centre, but closer to the University campus it is a large Victorian building, now somewhat stripped out, with wooden furniture and a few squashy sofas. There are a couple of ales on tap alongside some premium lagers, while food is predominantly restricted to cheese boards. We've yet to experience the music here, but looking at the listings, there is a good cross-section of genres and entry is mostly free. At other times, it is pretty chilled out here, with a good mix of customers and a useful beer garden out the back (just watch out for the angry wasps in summer). All in all, not a bad place to spend a couple of hours.
