A deceptively large pub with loads of nooks and crannies in a charming old building, the Lion and Snake is one of several pubs in the uphill area of Lincoln around the Cathedral, Castle and Newport Arch. It's an OK place and one that promotes itself as welcoming families for Sunday lunch, with one room in particular that seems well suited for dining. There's a beer garden to the side, with some tables with canopies, and some without, and a few real ales on hand pumps. It's a bit too lacquered and has too many of the pubco official posters stuck around the place for our tastes. Whether this one was ever a real 4-pinter, we don't know but on our last visit it was just worthy of a 3. Not worth making a special trip for but it does the job if you're in the area.

How to find the The Lion & Snake pub

About a 15-20 minute walk from Lincoln station, by way of the High Street, and the very appropriately named Steep Hill, which becomes Bailgate once it has flattened out again. The pub is on the right, about halfway along Bailgate.
